According to a survey carried out by the Information, communication and telecommunication (ICT) sector, the BPO market is to grow at 5.9% per year through 2017. It was estimated by Gartner, an international market research firm, that the world BPO market size will reach US$250 billion by the end of 2015.
Mauritius is competing with other regions of the world offering offshore services. The goal is to attract organizations to convince them to move their BPO activities to the island. The industry has confirmed its ability to boost both social cohesion and economic development, eventually leading to a higher standard of living. Foreign direct investments have played a key role in this context, with a healthy mix of large multinationals and local players operating in Mauritius, providing employment to over 19,000 persons in the industry. The sector has developed distinctive strengths in Telecoms, BFSI, IT Application Development and IT support.
